Membership and Retention Committee

The Membership and Retention Committee is charged with recruiting new members and with evaluating the opportunities and benefits being provided by the association to its current members to ensure needs and expectations are being fulfilled to the extent possible.

Duties

  • Disseminates information concerning Chapter membership.
  • Responsible for the solicitation of new members through appropriate means (e.g., advertisements, mailings, brochures)
  • Solicits nominations for life membership in the summer issue of the newsletter; submits the names of candidates for life membership to the Executive Board by September 1st for the Board's approval; and presents the approved candidates for life membership to the membership at the annual business meeting.
  • Welcomes new members to the Chapter, and relates appropriate information concerning the new members to the newsletter editor. [(]Each member of the committee shall be responsible for contacting new members in an assigned geographical region.[)]

Policies

Antidiscrimination Policy.  Membership in the Chapter or participation in any activity of the Chapter shall not be denied to any individual, or abridged on account of race, color, religion, sex, sexual preference, age, national origin, or disability.

Qualifications for Membership.  Any individual or organization interested in law libraries may become a member of the Chapter by qualifying under the provisions of one of the classes of membership. (Bylaws Art. V., Sec. 1)

Classes of Membership.  There shall be five classes of members: active, associate, life, retired, and student. (Bylaws Art. V, Sec.1)

Life Membership Certification.  The qualifications of a candidate for life membership shall be certified by the Secretary.

New Member Applications.  A new member's application shall apply for membership for the current year, and for the succeeding year, when received after August 31st.

Institutional Membership.  An individual membership, which has been paid by an institution, may be transferred to another individual within that institution, upon written request of the institution.
