The UC Davis Mabie Law Library seeks a forward-thinking, motivated, service-oriented professional librarian to join our team as a Senior Research Law Librarian. The Law Library is an integral part of the UC Davis School of Law, a highly ranked U.S. law school with an international reputation. The Library’s primary mission is to provide information resources and services that support the instructional and research programs of the more than 60 faculty (tenure track, lecturers, and others) and 600 law students, and also to serve the legal information needs of the University, the legal profession, and the general public.
The Senior Research Law Librarian will provide expert legal reference, research and instructional services to UC Davis School of Law faculty, staff, and students, as well as to members of the wider UC Davis community and members of the public. In addition, Research Law Librarians actively participate in the teaching of legal research courses and workshops throughout the year. The Librarian may be assigned to an area of concentration or to projects according to library needs and the Librarian's individual talents and interests.
The city of Davis is located just 15 miles from Sacramento, the capital of California, and is a vibrant college town known for its quality of life. We are within a two-hour drive from San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and the Napa Valley, and a day trip away from popular Northern California destinations such as Yosemite.
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
● J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school;
● Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school of information or library science, or other appropriate degree(s) relevant to library services;
● 5 or more years of increasingly responsible legal research work;
● Demonstrated deep and broad knowledge of legal research sources in both print and electronic formats;
● Demonstrated understanding of trends in legal research methodologies;
● Proficiency with library-related and educational technologies and a commitment to learning emerging technologies;
● Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently;
● User-focused and demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service;
● Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment;
● Strong written and oral communication skills.
Preferred qualifications
● Prior work experience in an academic law library setting;
● Experience supporting faculty, students, or others actively engaged in conducting legal research;
● Familiarity with interdisciplinary research tools;
● Demonstrated experience as a legal research instructor.
