Position Summary:
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provides reference services to faculty, students, alumni and public as part of the library team. May require working one evening per week and occasional weekends.
Develops expertise in all research databases to which the library subscribes and provides assistance and training to all library users.
Teaches legal research in the first-year Legal Research & Writing program, Advanced Legal Research, and other legal-research-related courses.
Provides in-depth legal research for law faculty.
Provides research instruction and assistance to law students, including law review and other student journal editors.
Participates in collection development work as part of the library team.
Develops marketing strategies and tools to inform and aid library users of relevant resources and services.
Works with Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law and other database providers to coordinate services and training.
Hires, trains, and supervises JD student reference assistants. May train and supervise other research assistants as assigned by the Director.
Performs other library-related tasks and coordinates projects as assigned by the Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, as well as a Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited library school.
Relevant work experience in a law library.
Proficiency with internet and web-based information tools, desktop computing, and legal research systems such as Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg and others is required.
Familiarity with emerging technologies in legal research instruction, online learning, classroom instruction and other technologies that may be used in legal education.
Competence in delivering legal research and reference services to faculty, students, and alumni.
Ability to teach legal research skills in both large and small group settings, provide individualized instruction to students, and use a wide range of educational technologies inside and outside of the classroom.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, and to prioritize projects as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years’ experience working in an academic law library
Classroom teaching experience
Instructional design skills and experience with educational technologies
Familiarity with electronic resources management
Experience with website design and maintenance
Typical Work Schedule
Full time; 40 hours per week, as determined in consultation with Library Director. With the occasional exception to meet reference desk needs during high demand periods (as determined in consultation with the Library Director), generally no earlier than 8am and no later than 5pm.
Salary: $80 - 85,000
